Empower Her:Unlocking Potential for BAME Women in Business

This is a very special project and very close to our heart, through the project we aim to empower migrant women from BAME communities in Birmingham’s deprived and disadvantaged areas to equip them to explore small enterprising ideas both as individuals and as groups.  Over the years, NHG has met many women with amazing skills and lots of hidden talents. We have seen women with brilliant cooking skills, DIY skills, gardening, dressmaking, embroidery, artists and many more talents. We have also experienced that there are barriers preventing them from being successful and exploring setting up small businesses, this is often due to the lack of support, confidence and mentors in their communities. With the right help, mentorship, training and guidance, these women will not only change their lives, but they will also inspire many other women in their communities.

The objective of this project is to help deprived and disadvantaged women to unlock their potentialities and make their dream become reality. The project will target disadvantaged women from BAME communities in the deprived inner-city areas of Birmingham, migrated to the UK within the last 10 to 15 years.

The following activities is incorporated into the project delivery plan:

a) Business Startup Guidance

b) Marketing their own business

c) Budgeting & Basic Bookkeeping

d) ESOL for business

Guidance and instructions on how to start a business will help beneficiaries to gain good insight into their chosen industry and their target market, learn to avoid costly mistakes.

Marketing, especially digital marketing skills are crucial and help a business to succeed. This project will help beneficiaries to improve their marketing skills. We have accommodated adequate number of sessions on how beneficiaries can market their business into the project’s delivery plan.

Since beneficiaries of these project are women who experience language barriers, we will organise ESOL for business sessions with the aim of supporting beneficiaries reduce their language barriers.

The project, also, will help beneficiaries to understand operating costs of their business and plan out expenses. Hence, we will arrange sessions on budgeting and Bookkeeping/budgeting sessions as well as information on benefits.

Development of digital skills

A digital literacy course for women from BAME communities are digitally excluded, led by New Hope Global, is designed to empower participants with essential digital skills. New Hope Global focuses on addressing the barriers these women face in accessing and utilising digital tools, providing hands-on training in using smartphones, navigating the internet, and mastering basic software applications. This programme aims to build digital confidence but also equips women with the knowledge to access online education, employment opportunities, and essential services. By promoting digital inclusion, New Hope Global aims to break the cycle of exclusion, enabling women and other disadvantaged communities to connect with support networks, manage personal finances, and contribute more effectively to their communities.
