Empowering Women: to use affordable public transport and removing barriers

Following a focus group meeting with the Chai, Chat and Wellbeing group, the group members expressed how some members have not travelled to places by bus or on train as they depend on their family members or taxi services to travel to places such as hospitals, schools and other public places.  Women often have more eco-conscious travel habits, using walking and public transport more frequently than men.

Safe, reliable, and inclusive mobility is essential to women's independence, safety, equality, economic participation and vital for the environment. Encouraging public transport reduces traffic congestion and carbon emissions, especially important in densely populated cities.  Public transit gives women access to education, jobs, healthcare, and social life at affordable cost, for low-income women or those who can’t drive due to age, cost, or restrictions.

New Hope Global is committed to addressing challenges faced by our beneficiaries, listening to their needs and helping to remove barriers and overcome fears.  Empowerment is key to creating a stronger, safer, and more connected community.
